Corsendonk Day

The great Corsendonk Crisis was a major turning point for the 40b40 project, so I approached this day with much trepidation.

Despite finding a solution to the crisis in November, tensions have remained, and it didn't help that this was the first Flemish beer of 40b40 after three Francophone ones. It was hard to know what to expect -- perhaps even a spontaneous demonstration, because you never know what you're going to get with these constantly rioting Belgians.

Luckily, the drink took place on neutral territory: the Beermania shop on de Wavre.

I chose the dubbel (pater), which I find quite refreshingly fizzy and crisp for a dark beer. Seb noted, “fresh grape at first sip, caramel in the mouth, turning to raisin in the aftertaste”. Well called, I’d say. Raisin or even dried currants was something I found, too.
